A Ford County man has been found competent to stand trial on charges of attempted kidnapping. A federal judge in Urbana set an April 5th trial date for 36 year old Paul E. Theesfield of Roberts. Police say on December 5th of last year, Theesfield allegedly struck a woman with his car in Gibson City then fled the scene in what he later admitted to police was a failed kidnapping attempt. Theesfield allegedly told investigators that his plan was to incapacitate the woman with the car then take her away to sexually assault the woman. The plan fell apart when the woman was not seriously hurt and began screaming. Theesfield then ran from the scene. The judge made his Monday ruling after the results of a psychiatric report on Theesfield came back.
