Bourbonnais Fire Chief Warns Of Decorating Hazards (AUDIO)

Nov 12, 2021 | 8:53 AM
We’re less than two weeks away from Thanksgiving and with the weekend upon us you might be thinking about getting out those holiday decorations. Bourbonnais Fire Protection District Fire Chief Jim Keener has a few reminders for you as you decorate for the holidays. Keener says the first thing is to make sure you don’t overload an outlet or extension cord by plugging in more strings of lights than you should

Keener adds you should make sure you use heavy duty extension cords to power your displays and he says don’t use power strips for multiple strings of lights since that’s not what power strips were designed for

Keener says you should always make sure you shut out your lights before you go to bed and he says it’s a good idea to go over an escape plan if you have visitors staying with you over the holiday season.
