Damage is estimated at 150,000 dollars from a fire Friday afternoon at Kankakee Area Materials on Washington in Kankakee. City fire said the blaze was started by workers cutting blocks of aluminum near some scrap aluminum; the resulting fire destroyed an air purification filter and fiber optic cables to their weight scale. No one was hurt. The fire also caused quite a bit of smoke in the immediate area of Brookmont Blvd.
