Arrest Reported in Newton County Car Chase

Newton County Indiana Sheriff’s Police report an arrest in connection with that chase last week that ended with a car in the Iroquois River. Reports say 37-year-old Jose Richard Cantu was wanted on several warrants out of Jasper County when he was spotted and chased by Newton County Sheriff’s Police, agents from the Newton county Drug Task Force and Morocco Police last week. That chase ended when Cantu allegedly drove his pick-up into a corn field. Late last week, deputies were notified Cantu and a Rensselaer woman were in Hickman County Tennessee. Both were taken into custody in Tennessee for possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of drug paraphernalia. Cantu faces several domestic battery and gun related charges in Indiana.
