Solar powered license plate reading cameras are coming to Paxton

Automatic solar powered license plate reading cameras are coming to Paxton.  The cameras will be located on U.S.45 and Illinois Rt 9.  They will take a photo of every vehicle’s license plate that passes by.  The plate will then be checked against a criminal database for possible police action.  Paxton officials stress that the cameras will not be used for speed checks and will not photograph driver or passenger images. The city has a contract for the cameras at 22,600 dollars for two years.
