Jury Selection Underway for Harris Murder Trial

Jury selection got underway this morning in Kankakee County Court for the trial of Xandria Harris accused in the 2021 murder of Bradley Police Sergeant Marlene Rittmanic and the wounding of her partner Officer Tyler Bailey. Judge Kathy Bradshaw Elliott called the first 45 jurors for jury selection this morning and briefed them on the case. Judge Elliott said jury selection will take place all day today and tomorrow. 12 jurors and 5 alternates will be chosen. Evidence will begin to be presented at 10 Wednesday morning. The trial should take about two weeks but could last as long as three weeks. Xandria Harris faces three counts of first degree among other charges.
