Herscher Police Deal with Knife-Weilding man

Herscher Police were called to a home on South Park Road Wednesday night in reference to a man allegedly armed with a knife threating to hurt others and himself. According to police reports, officers arrived at a home in the 200 block of South Park Road about fifteen minutes past 6 Wednesday night to find 39-year-old Austin L. Jones had barricaded himself in a room on the second floor of the home. A witness at the scene told police Jones was intoxicated and had made threats to hurt others and himself while in possession of a kitchen knife. After several minutes of officers trying to talk to Jones to get him to exit the room, he opened a window in the second story bedroom and jumped to the ground. After a short struggle, officers placed Jones in handcuffs and transported him to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Jones has been charged with obstruction and resisting a police officer.
