Mar 4, 2026 | 9:32 AM

The cost of gas is going up. According to Triple-A the average cost for a gallon of regular no-lead gas is three-dollar 22 cents across the Kankakee area, up some 13 cents since yesterday and up nearly 40 cents in the past week. Gas is running 3.26 a gallon on average in Iroquois, County, 3.27 in Ford County and 3.41 a gallon in Will County.

Across the state line, Triple-A says a gallon of gas will set you back two-dollars-95 cents on average in Newton County, 3.23 a gallon in Benton County and 3.17 a gallon in Jasper County. Analysts say the increase is gas prices comes from unrest in the Middle East, companies changing over to more expensive summer blends of gas and activities like spring break causing an increased demand for gasoline.
