Kankakee City Police made a gun arrest on the city’s far south side early Tuesday morning. According to reports, officers responded to a business in the 400 block of Riverstone Parkway around 2:00 a.m. Tuesday to check on a suspicious vehicle. When police arrived, they saw two vehicles parked in front of the business’s main entry: a red Jeep Grand Cherokee and a gray Dodge Journey. The Dodge was empty but the Jeep had three people inside. The driver, identified as 24-year-old Jeremiya J. Calmes was asked by officers why they were parked there. Calmes said they arrived there earlier to smoke. Officers asked Calmes if there were any drugs in the Jeep and he held up a small baggie of suspected cannabis. Calmes was asked to step out of the car so police could search him and the Jeep. A search of the Jeep turned up a black 9 millimeter handgun in the center console. Calmes was arrested for aggravated unlawful use of a weapon among other charges.
