Kankakee City Police took another stolen gun off the streets Tuesday. According to reports, officers were called to a park in the 500 block of West Hickory Street just after five last night for a weapons call. When officers arrived, they found a group of people having a cookout under a gazebo. Police approached a car parked nearby the gazebo and smelled a strong cannabis odor coming from inside. A search of the car turned up cannabis and a loaded semi-automatic handgun with an extended magazine. A search through KanComm reported the gun was stolen on March 18th and listed 23-year-old Tyler S. Akins as the suspect who allegedly took it. Akins was arrested and charged with possession of a stolen firearm among other gun related charges.
