Illinois Department of Agriculture Director, Jerry Costello was joined by Kankakee area State Senator Patrick Joyce at the Kankakee County U of I Extension Office Tuesday to tout 500,000 dollars in state funding in this year’s state budget for the Farm Family Resource Initiative. Costello says the FFRI was put in place to address the mental and emotional needs of the farming community.
Senator Joyce, a farmer himself, says with higher costs and the planting season getting a late start this year, farmers are under a lot of stress this growing season.
Farmers who feel the need to talk about the stress they are experiencing can call the farmer assistance helpline, seven days a week, 24 hours a day, at 1-833-FARM-SOS.
