Kankakee City Firefighters were kept busy over the weekend. Fire department personnel were called to a garage fire in the 600 block of South Lincoln Avenue Saturday night. Reports say when they got there they found the garage fully engulfed in flame. While the cause of the fire is under investigation, there had reportedly been children in the area playing with fireworks shortly before the fire broke out. No one was injured in the blaze which caused about 10-thousand-dollars worth of damage to the garage.

Firefighters were called Sunday to a home in the 400 block of South Myrtle. Reports say the home had been empty for about three weeks and initial investigations indicate the fire was deliberately set. The fire caused about 20-thousand-dollars in damage to the home and Kankakee Fire was assisted by firefighters from Bradley, Bourbonnais, Kankakee Township and Limestone.

Then late last night Kankakee Firefighters were called to a fire in the 800 block of North Chicago Avenue. Reports say the call came in just after 11 last night, and when they got there they found heavy fire coming from the abandoned building. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
