Jul 19, 2022 | 5:52 PM

The Kankakee City Council last night approved the budget for the fiscal year that will end on April 30, 2023.  It totals 32.3 million dollars which is an increase of just 294-thousand dollars over last year.  Mayor Chris Curtis credits a lot of hard work and decisions on the part of city department heads in keeping costs in check. Revenue projections show a surplus at the end of the fiscal year for Kankakee of 222-thousand 585 dollars. Broken down, city spending will be 27 million for city operations and 5 million for police and fire pensions.
