One of the world’s largest oil companies will payout millions of dollars in a lawsuit settlement. Environmental groups accused the BP refinery in Whiting Indiana of breaking the law by polluting the air with dangerous levels of particulate pollution. BP agreed to pay two-point-75-million dollars as part of the settlement. Nearly two-million dollars of the money will go to a U.S. Treasury fund to be used for Clean Air Act enforcement. One-million dollars will go to organizations for environmental projects while a non-profit group that will plant trees and a school district that will install air filters will each receive 500-thousand dollars.
