Retired Kankakee FireFighter James Stokes Jr. has been honored with a street named after him. At this week’s Kankakee City council meeting aldermen voted to give the 800 block of North Washington Street the honorary name of James H. Stokes Jr. Way. The Daily Journal reports Stokes spent a good part of his career serving at the Washington Street fire house. Stokes retired in February of this year and passed away just four months later. He was 64.
