A federal grand jury has indicted former Pembroke Township Supervisor Larry Gibbs on charges of filing false tax returns. In a press release, the US Attorney’s Office for the Central District of the State of Illinois says the 61-year-old Gibbs, who is also known as Mulumbua Humraukn El Taikaem Bey of St. Anne was indicted by the grand jury October fourth. The indictment alleges Gibbs filed false income tax returns for calendar years 2012, 2013 and 2014 claiming an adjusted gross income of 10-million-dollars, that millions had been withheld by the federal government and he was owed refunds in excess of two-million-dollars – when in fact, the IRS says they’d not withheld any federal income tax from Gibbs and he was not “entitled to the requested funds”. Gibbs was arrested by Federal Agents Wednesday. If convicted on the charges he could spend up to nine years in prison and be forced to pay fines of up to 300-thousand-dollars.
