Kankakee teacher suspended following incident

A Kankakee High School teacher has been suspended after using a racially charged word in class Thursday.  District 111 officials say a student and the teacher had a disagreement a few weeks ago and the student apparently brought up the matter in class and wanted an apology.  The teacher did apologize, but then, school officials say, the situation escalated into an argument between the two.  The student left the classroom and it was at that point the teacher allegedly uttered the word.   The student did later return to class.  The teacher is suspended pending an investigation.
