Nov 14, 2022 | 7:48 PM
The SAFE-T Act will get its first hearing in Kankakee County Court December 7th.  58 Counties have joined in a suit first filed by Kankakee and Will Counties to prevent the implantation of the legislation on January 1st of 2023.  The bill would eliminate cash bail and change the requirements for being detained by police. The lawsuit contends the bill is unconstitutional for not allowing the people to have their say with a referendum on the legislation as has been done in the past.  The Daily Journal reports Judge Tom Cunnington is hearing the case which was combined into one by the Illinois Supreme Court with Kankakee taking the lead.
