Kankakee County State’s Attorney Jim Rowe was before the Illinois Supreme Court today arguing the constitutionality of the so-called Safe-T Act. Under the law judges could no longer require bail be paid in order to leave jail, but can hold a suspect if the case meets the criteria for doing so or they pose a risk to safety or of fleeing. Rowe told the justices today that the legislation also poses a danger to law enforcement officers throughout the state.
A decision is not expected for several weeks.
