The Will County Sheriff’s Police are warning of a rise in what they call “ruse” burglaries. They say in this type burglary, someone approaches a homeowner saying they’re from a utility company or a business you didn’t contact and need access to the home or back yard to assess for work that may need to be done. While the homeowner is distracted by the first person, someone else enters the home and makes off with valuables. The Will County Sheriff’s Police say if you’re approached in this manor, do not engage the person. Instead you should go inside your home and call the police or the company the person says they’re representing.
