Wheatfield Woman Killed in Crash

A Wheatfield, Indiana woman was killed when her vehicle struck the back of a stopped semi on I-65 in Merrillville about 10 Sunday morning.   Indiana State Police say 37 year old Jennifer R. Benton was traveling at a high rate of speed in the far left lane when she suddenly changed lanes to exit at 61st Street.  Her 2006 Honda struck the right rear of a semi that had stopped to secure a loose load between the exit ramp and the interstate lanes.   Benton was pronounced dead at the scene and a passenger was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The truck driver was not hurt.
