Officer Anthony Samfay Remembered

Today marks the 27th anniversary of the death of Kankakee City Police officer Anthony Samfay.   Samfay was shot 5 times in the back while conducting a traffic stop at Fair St. and Chicago Ave in Kankakee. He was only 26 at the time of his death.  Eric Lee was convicted and sentenced to death, but that was reduced to life in prison when former Governor George Rayn did away with the state’s death penalty.
