A Tennessee man was arrested Sunday after leading police on a chase on U.S. 41 in Benton County. State police say a trooper attempted to pull over the speeding vehicle near Benton County 650 north Road, but the driver sped away. Stop sticks were deployed near 41 and State Road 18, but the driver tried to avoid the device and drove into the median where the vehicle became stuck. 29 year old Jawan Lawrence then tried to run from troopers, but was quickly arrested. Also in the vehicle were a woman and child, they were not hurt. Police say they also found a firearm in the vehicle and a Glock switch that can turn a handgun into a fully automatic weapon. Lawrence, who is wanted on a warrant out of Lake County, is also charged with possession of a machine gun without a license as well as neglect of a dependent, resisting arrest and reckless driving.
