Dead Birds in Kankakee County Prompt Advisory

As cases of H5N1 or Avian Influenza continue to climb across the state, Manteno Police and Kankakee County Animal Control report several dead geese have been found in the area and that there appears to be a high number of bird flu cases.  If you come across a dead or sick bird you’re advised to not touch the animal without goggles and hand protection using disposable gloves or an inverted plastic bag while wearing a raincoat or disposable plastic trash bag over your clothes..  Then double bag the bird and dispose of the bags in the trash that are not accessible to children or animals.  Wash off both yourself and clothing with soap and hot water and throw away the goggles, gloves and bags.
