Despite recent rains, drought concerns continue to worsen around the area. The latest map just released today by the US Drought Monitor has 48 percent of Kankakee County listed as in “moderate drought”. That’s up from just three percent last week. The report has 93 percent of Iroquois County, 96 percent of Ford County, 41 percent of Will County and all of both Grundy and Livingston Counties also considered to be in “moderate drought”. The rest of those counties is considered just “abnormally dry”.
Across the state line, 28 percent of Newton County, 24 percent of Jasper county and the entirety of Benton County are considered to be in “moderate drought” with the remainder of those counties simply “abnormally dry” The latest map includes data gathered by the US Drought Monitor through Tuesday.
