Jasper Deputy Shooting, Justified

Feb 28, 2025 | 4:57 PM
Following an Indiana State Police investigation into a January fatal shooting of a man by a Jasper County Deputy, the shooting has been ruled justified.  Troopers say after being stopped on State Road 14 for speeding on January 26th, 42 year old Matthew W. Huttle, who was a habitual traffic violator, ran to his car when told he was about to be arrested.  A struggle between the two ensued and at one point Huttle reached into the car and raised a firearm. The trooper then fired his weapon. Huttle died at the scene.  Later a 9mm handgun and ammunition were found in the vehicle.
