EPA Testing Hoopeston Water

The EPA has randomly selected the city of Hoopeston to test the water for unregulated contaminants…and found naturally occurring lithium. City officials say it’s part of a nationwide initiative, the EPA is checking for impurities that might need future regulation. Hoopeston’s tests show lithium from the Mahomet Aquifer—not at less than 10 parts per billion.  The EPA confirms the water is perfectly safe, but a required letter sent to every household on the system this week has sparked some concern. City officials promise to keep residents updated.
