Last week’s rains have gone a long way toward lessening drought concerns in our area.
The latest map just released today by the US Drought Monitor has all of Kankakee, Will, Grundy and Livingston counties listed as just “abnormally dry”. A significant improvement from last week when just about that entire area was listed as being in moderate drought. Meanwhile, nearly half of both Iroquois and Ford Counties continue to be in moderate drought.

Across the state line, nearly 60 percent of Newton County, 70 percent of Jasper county and all of Benton County are considered to be in moderate drought. The most recent map includes information gathered through Tuesday of this week.
