Loda hogs to be euthanized

Iroquois County’s Times-Republic reports some 50 hogs at a rural Loda farm will have to be euthanized after being injured in a tornado last Wednesday. The National Weather Service says the tornado was an EF-1 with winds of about 100 milles an hour. It destroyed two buildings at the Pioneer Pork farm just after 5:00 Wednesday evening and left about 2 and a half miles of debris in its wake.  Owners of the farm have estimated about 3 million dollars worth of damage to the property.  The hogs that were saved from the storm will be taken to facilities ranging from farms near Gibson City to rural Armstrong to Merna, says the Times-Republic, but as of Friday, about 1100 of them were still without a home.
