Some 300 Kankakee County residents were on hand this Memorial Day morning as the cremated remains of US Army Veteran John Kirnbauer were laid to rest in the Field of Honor at Memorial Gardens in Kankakee. Kirnbauer’s remains were unclaimed by family for five years before they were claimed by the Kankakee Veterans Commission to be laid to rest.
