Gibson City Police report the arrest of a former Gibson City Melvin Sibley 8th grade teacher. A press release from Gibson City Police Chief Adam Rosendahl says his department was contacted March 30th by concerned parents of a GCMS student who told them their child had been getting concerning text messages from Robert Dinkins. Gibson City Police, school district officials and the Illinois State Attorney’s Appellate Prosecutors Office started an investigation that allegedly revealed Dinkins had been involved in sexual activities with a high school aged student. Reports say an arrest warrant was issued for Dinkins Wednesday and he was arrested Thursday in Macon Georgia, charged with six counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. In addition to being an 8th grade teacher, Dinkins had been an 8th grade basketball coach, middle school track coach, high school track coach and high school basketball coach. School District officials say the school board voted to terminate Dinkins April 23rd.
