Deputies look for suspect in battery case
Kankakee County Sheriff’s Police are looking for a suspect after a man said he was assaulted by another man while at a gas station in Pembroke Township. According to reports, it was just before nine yesterday morning when deputies were called by a man who said he’d been at the gas station when he spoke to another man who became irritated with him. The victim said the other man took a swing at him, then picked him up and slammed him to the ground, injuring his head and back. Deputies say they went to the suspects home and tried to make contact with him, but were unable to. The investigation continues.
City Police make aggravated battery arrest
Kankakee City Police report an arrest in connection with an alleged hit and run from earlier this month. According to reports, it was just before three in the afternoon on Thursday August 7th, when a police were called to the intersection of Tedmark Court and Cranbrook where they were told a man on a dirt bike had been hit by a car and the bike had been dragged for about 50 feet, before the driver took off. The rider of the dirt bike was taken to the hospital for treatment. Following an investigation, City Police arrested 30-year-old Tiara K Early Tuesday morning for Aggravated Battery.
VAC Superintendent addresses PTSD treatments for veterans
During this morning’s meeting of the Kankakee Count Board’s Executive Committee, the committee got an update from Eric Peterson, Superintendent of the Veteran’s Assistance Commission. Peterson was asked what the protocol is when it comes to a veteran who thinks they may have PTSD.
Peterson pointed out PTSD can manifest itself in many different ways
Peterson said once the vet has their diagnosis and their treatment is lined up, they should contact the VAC to see what help may be available for them through the VAC.
County Health Department waits on grant approvals
During this morning’s meeting of the Kankakee County Board’s Executive Committee, County Health Department Administrator John Bevis gave the committee an update on his department’s granting process
Bevis said the new grants are expected to replace some grants that have been lost so the Health Department can continue their programs and staffing.
Former O’Bama administration staff members call for fairer legislative maps in IL
Two bipartisan former Obama administration officials are pushing for fairer maps in Illinois’ state legislative districts. Former U.S. Commerce Secretary Bill Daley and ex-Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood are leading an effort to establish a ballot initiative in 2026 to reform the redistricting process for state legislative map-making. The proposed constitutional amendment would establish a citizen-led committee to redraw the maps after the 2030 census. The latest attempt to make legislative maps fairer in Illinois follows the departure of Texas Democrats who spent two weeks in suburban Chicago to avoid a vote in their state on a Republican-backed redrawing of congressional district boundaries.
