Fight at Bradley Central School Basketball Game
A fight at a Junior High Basketball game in Bradley led to the arrest of a Saint Anne man Thursday night. According to police reports, Bradley officers along with Kankakee County Sheriff’s deputies and Bourbonnais police responded to Bradley Central School in the 200 block of North Wabash Avenue around 6:30 Thursday night in reference to a fight in the gym during a boys basketball game. Officers learned that there was an altercation between Bradley Center and Saint Anne basketball teams towards the end of the game. The fight eventually led fans to leave the stands and walk down to the basketball court. 18 year old Quinton M. Thompson of Saint Anne allegedly struck two Bradley Central players, sending one to the hospital. Thompson was arrested Monday and charged with aggravated battery in a public place among other charges.
Man Beaten Outside of Kankakee Bar
A man says he was knocked unconscious by a group of men outside a Kankakee Bar early Sunday morning. According to Kankakee City police reports, the battery happened near the 300 block of South East Avenue Sunday. The victim stated he had been dropped off near a bar to meet a family member. As he walked toward the entrance, a group of men approached and began striking him. One of the men is described as approximately 5 foot 8 inches with dark hair and wearing a white T-shirt and dark jeans, struck him in the back of the head with an object the victim believed to be a metal pole. The victim says he then blacked out and did not recognize any of the attackers. Officers could see the victim had a head laceration that required medical treatment. A search of the area outside the bar and nearby surveillance footage turned up no evidence.
Kankakee Man Threatens Someone with Loaded Handgun
A Kankakee man has been arrested after he allegedly threatened someone with a loaded handgun. According to city police reports, the incident happened sometime Sunday in the 100 block of South Wildwood Avenue. When officers arrived, the victim told them a man, later identified as 44 year old Juan Tejada Lozada, allegedly had displayed a black handgun, inserted a loaded magazine, and pressed the firearm against his stomach before leaving. Witnesses outside the home say they observed Lozada leave while holding multiple magazines as he walked to a maroon car. Officers located Lozada later on in the 500 block of South Gordon Avenue. No gun was located on Lozada or in his car at that time. Lozada was taken back to the station for questioning and later charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
DUI Arrest Leads to Confiscated Loaded Firearm
Kankakee City Police confiscated a loaded gun during a DUI arrest Sunday. According to police reports, officers were called for a welfare check sometime Sunday to a man sitting in a red pickup truck on South Wildwood Avenue. The man was passed out in the drivers seat when police got there. Officers woke him up, noticed the smell of alcohol on him and also spotted an open beer container in the car. After officers conducted a field sobriety test and placed the man in the back of a squad car. A search of his truck turned up a loaded .22 caliber rifle. 53 year old Billy C. Lippold was arrested and charged with Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, among other charges.
Avoid Foodborne Illness this Thanksgiving
The Illinois Department of Public Health is reminding everyone to take steps to prevent an outbreak of foodborne illness over Thanksgiving. For safe turkey preparation, the first step is to safely thaw the bird. It takes about 24 hours for every five pounds of turkey to thaw in the fridge. People should wash their hands with soap and water before, during, and after preparing your food. Individuals should also use a food thermometer to check if the turkey and stuffing have reached a safe internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
IDOT Reopens Lanes Where Possible for Thanksgiving Travel
A number of lanes that have been closed for construction throughout Illinois will reopen for the Thanksgiving holiday to minimize travel disruption. Non-emergency closures will be suspended from 3 p.m. tomorrow to 11:59 p.m. Sunday. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and stay alert for workers and equipment.
