Kankakee Police Make Arrest in Shots Fired Incident from Saturday

Kankakee City Police have made an arrest in connection with a shots fired incident that happened Saturday night on the city’s eastside. According to police reports, officers were notified through ShotSpotter that several rounds were fired in the 200 and 100 hundred blocks of North Evergreen Avenue around 11:30 Saturday night. Officers located several spent shell casings at the scene and damage to a nearby home and car. Police were able to review Verkada camera footage and got a license plate number on a black chevy malibu believed to be involved in the shooting. Bourbonnais Police found the car in the 800 block of Gramercy Lane and detained the driver, 38-year-old Kashus D. Vanderbilt. The front passenger window of his car had suffered bullet damage and police recovered a 9mm handgun along with shell casings inside the car. A background check on the gun determined it was stolen out of Rantoul. Vanderbilt was arrested and charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm among other gun related charges.
