Today is February 11th, otherwise known as 2-1-1 day. It’s a day to recognize the free information helpline and the services it has supported over the last 11 years of operation in Kankakee County. United Way of Kankakee and Iroquois Counties Executive Director Mariah Vail made a presentation Tuesday morning to the Kankakee County Board and talked about the importance of 2-1-1.
Vail told the County Board more than 25-hundred people from Kankakee and Iroquois Counties called 2-1-1 last year and of those calls, 42 percent of the calls were for housing or shelter. She added 19 percent of the total call needs went unfulfilled last year due to lack of funding.
