Fortitude Community Outreach, an organization that helps the homeless in Kankakee County, has received a 20-thousand dollar grant from the Illinois Treasurer’s Office. According to a press release from Illinois Treasurer Michael Frerichs last Thursday, Fortitude was one of ten grant recipients in the latest round of his office’s Charitable Trust Grants. The grants are given to smaller non-profit organizations who help provide housing and job training for those in need. Funding for the grants comes from fees larger nonprofits pay to file annual reports. According to a Facebook post from Fortitude Community Outreach, it’s the first grant of its kind given in Kankakee County.
