Kankakee City Police report the arrest of a man after he allegedly battered one of their officers Tuesday night on the city’s west side. According to reports, officers responded to business in the 800 block of West Station Street just before 8 Tuesday night in reference to a highly intoxicated person. When they arrived, they saw a man later identified as 19-year-old Darryl J. Mix leaning on the front counter of the restaurant with a bottle of alcohol in his hand. Officers asked Mix to put down the bottle and come outside with them to talk. Mix was compliant but had difficulty following instructions because he was so intoxicated. Officers called EMS to the scene to take Mix to the hospital. Once EMS arrived, Mix became disrespectful toward them. While officers began to restrain Mix, he flailed his arms, hitting one of the officers in the face. Mix was taken to the ground, handcuffed, and transported to the hospital. He’s been charged with aggravated battery to a peace officer.
