Governor Pritzker will join local officials today to assess storm damage in Kankakee County. Severe weather hit the county on Tuesday. The National Weather Service has confirmed an EF-3 tornado hit Kankakee County on Tuesday night. The tornado had peak winds near 150 miles-per-hour and was tracked nearly 37-miles beginning five miles west of Aroma Park and dissipating west of De Motte, Indiana. The weather service says that tornado lasted an hour and 21 minutes. A hailstone with a diameter of six-inches was measured in Kankakee, which may be considered a new Illinois state record.
Tholen's Landscape & Garden Center on Route 45/52 on the south side of Kankakee was hit hard by Tuesday night's tornado.
