First day of Spring

Spring starts today with the annual vernal equinox.  This means an equal amount of daylight and darkness, due to the sun’s position above the equator.  Spring’s arrival means the days will soon be getting longer.  Because of the Earth’s tilt on its axis, the northern hemisphere receives the sun’s rays more directly in the summer.
