A routine traffic stop conducted by Kankakee City Police Wednesday night led to a drug arrest on the city’s west side. According to reports, officers pulled over a Cadillac Escalade on West River Street just before 7:30 Wednesday night for window tints that appeared illegal. When the SUV stopped, officers saw the front passenger climb into the back seat. After officers spoke with the driver about the tinted windows, they opened the rear passenger door and found someone hiding under a blanket. The person was identified as 27-year-old Meghan O. Padilla who was wanted on an outstanding warrant. Officers placed Padilla in handcuffs and told them there was a case in the back of the SUV containing syringes. Police located a small yellow case with two syringes containing a cloudy liquid that field-tested positive for almost five grams of methamphetamine. Padilla stated she picked the syringes up off the floor and that they didn’t belong to her, but the case did. Padilla was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance.
