Chicago Police officer killed in shooting

Charges are pending after a Chicago police officer was killed and another was critically wounded in a shooting over the weekend at Swedish Hospital on the North Side.  The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the officer who died as Officer John Bartholomew.  The second officer is still fighting for his life in the hospital.  Police say a male was in custody and receiving treatment inside Swedish Hospital on Saturday for an unrelated incident when he used a firearm to shoot the two officers.  He fled the scene and was later taken into custody.
