Illinois State Police Make Drug Arrest on I-57 near Kankakee

Illinois State Police report a drug arrest Friday night on I-57 near Kankakee. According to reports, troopers saw a White Chevy Tahoe commit a violation near exit 322 in Manteno around eight Friday night. Troopers initiated a traffic stop at an intersection in Kankakee and that’s when the driver attempted to flee the scene. The Tahoe crashed and both the driver and passenger were taken into custody. A search of the SUV turned up several hundred grams of suspected fentanyl. Troopers arrested the driver, Yachia Austin and passenger Billy Walker for possession of a controlled substance and manufacture/delivery of fentanyl between four-hundred and nine-hundred grams. Austin was also charged with fleeing to elude a police officer.
