Governor designates state bee

Jul 9, 2026 | 9:21 AM
Governor JB Pritzker is designating the black and gold bumblebee as the official Illinois State Bee.  The designation was part of a law signed by the governor.  The black and gold bumblebee serves as a critical prairieland pollinator that boosts Illinois’ natural ecosystem, supports agriculture, and helps sustain life on earth.  This action follows a year of advocacy by students from Naperville’s Lincoln Junior High School.
