Kankakee City Council passed two resolutions Monday night for two honorary street designations. Mayor Chris Curtis said the first one was to designate the 700 Block of South Harrison Avenue as “Frank Lloyd Wright Way”.
Mayor Curtis says the second designation is for the 600 block of North Schuyler Avenue as “Honorary Ira D. Nelson Avenue”, named after the city’s First Licensed African American Barber.
Nelson’s wife, Ruby, was there to accept the designation. Nelson also served in the Army during the Korean Conflict in the 1950s. He passed away in 2020 at 88.
