Kankakee City Police arrest man after shots fired in the City

Kankakee City Police have made an arrest following another incident where shots were fired in the City.  This one happened right around 7:15 last night in the 500 block of North Indiana Avenue. When they got there, officers say they spoke to a witness who told them he’d heard what sounded like fireworks. Another officer that was in the are at the time said she’d seen a man standing behind a pickup truck , then walk into an apartment complex. Reports say a spent shell casing and unfired round were found near the pickup. Officers say they made contact with 63-year-old Wesley J Hairston, who was identified as the man standing near the back of the truck. A search of Hairston’s apartment allegedly turned up a loaded handgun. Hairston was arrested by City Police for Unlawful use of a weapon and reckless discharge of a firearm among other charges.
