A series of dangerous storms moved through the area Saturday afternoon, prompting the National Weather Service to issue a series of tornado warnings for the area. The first two were issued almost simultaneously about four Saturday afternoon when National Weather Service Radar showed dangerous storms in northern and southern Kankakee County. Then just as those warnings expired, another was issued for Bourbonnais, again because the National Weather Services radar showed rotation in storm clouds as they moved through the area. That last warning prompted the shutdown of the Friendship Festival for a time, but everything was back up and running by about 6:30 in the evening Saturday night. The Kankakee County Sheriff’s Office says only minor damage was reported from the storms. Mostly trees and limbs downed by high winds and some flooding from the heavy rains that accompanied the storms.
