The Kankakee City Council approved a general fund budget for the fiscal year that began in May that is 4 million dollars higher than last year. Total expenditures are pegged at 31-point-3 million dollars and Mayor Chris Curtis says that includes money to hire more police and fire personnel.
The city will also hire 3 more people in the code enforcement office. Spending for this year was bolstered by federal COVID relief funds totaling 1-point-5 million dollars.
