ONU Adding Solar Power

Aug 2, 2021 | 4:11 PM

Olivet Nazarene University is expected to save and estimated 45,000 dollars a year on electrical costs when the installation of some 3,100 solar panels on two campus rooftops is complete. The panels began going up in May on the roof of the Perry Student Life Center and Hawkins Centennial Chapel.    When up and running, school officials say in a press release that the power generated will be used in the buildings with any extra going onto the central grid.   The panels are being leased from a Wisconsin solar company for the next 25 years.  The company is responsible for maintenance.  The panels are expected to increase the university’s renewable energy percentage from 9 to 19 percent.  The panels are expected to be generating power by the start of the school year.
