Cool Centers Available

If you’re need of a place to cool off during the worst of the heat there are several cooling centers available around the area.  Northfield sq. mall opens at 11 am, the Kankakee Health Department on West station is available from 8:30 to 4:30, Beat the heat at the Pembroke and Momence Library’s during regular hours or hop on a bus.  When the heat index climbs above 100 degrees all rides are free to a cooling station.  The Daily Journal reports that masks must be worn on Metro buses and at the libraries.
