The Kankakee City Police Department has announced the re-opening of a more than 35-year-old cold case. In the early morning hours of August 3rd 1985, Jeannette Johnson went missing from her home in Kankakee. Family members saw her park her car behind her home the night before and the morning of her disappearance her car was found with the window partially rolled down with her purse and other personal items still inside. Johnson was never seen alive again. Last November, remains were found in eastern Kankakee County and DNA identification showed those remains to be those of Johnson. Kankakee City Police Sergeant Logan Anderson is heading up the re-opening of the case
Sergeant Anderson said he’s hopeful progress can still be made in the case
Anderson said plans are in the works to do a search for evidence in the coming weeks with the location and time yet to be determined. He says anyone that would like to help with that search can get more information from the City Police website, the local newspaper and the Missing Persons Awareness Network. If you have information about Jeanette Johnson’s disappearance you’re asked to call the Kankakee City Police Department or the local Crimestoppers at 815-93-CRIME.
